Miss Rachel Bright-Thomas obtained a first in medical sciences at Cambridge University and then did her clinical training at Oxford University. Rachel spent the next 13 years in surgical training, largely in London teaching hospitals, before moving home to the West Midlands.
As part of her training she did a masters degree looking at gene therapy in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
On the clinical front she spent her penultimate year in training in 1 of only 9 National Oncoplastic Breast Fellowships, learning how to use plastic surgical techniques to complement and enhance the results of breast cancer surgery. Rachel is fully trained in breast reconstruction, augmentation and breast reduction and offers this as part of her regular NHS practice.
In 2006 Rachel was appointed as a Consultant Breast and General Surgeon at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and has been MDT and clinical lead. All her elective work is breast surgery as outlined above.
"Thank you for the wonderful care and treatment which you have given me.
My operation day and my appointments with you have been totally positive experiences so that I now go forward for radiotherapy feeling well and good about the outcome."
"Thank you so much for all that you have done for me; I'm so appreciative of the way you were tenacious in gaining my diagnosis, of how swiftly you were able to arrange my surgery and how wonderfully everything has turned out, it's a fabulous end result!
I'm full of admiration for all that you do and the most marvellous way in which you do it."
"I felt I had to write to thank you for the care you gave given to me.
From the day I was diagnosed you have treated me with such care and empathy.
You made me feel confident that I was receiving the best care possible. Because you are like this you have a great team of nurses around you. I feel very fortunate. Oh! And my new boobs are great!
Thank you so much. You are amazing."
