I am currently Clinical Lead for Paediatric Otolaryngology at Barts Children's & Bart's & Royal London hospitals. I was appointed as ENT Consultant at this teaching hospital to develop tertiary level paediatric airway service here which I have successfully achieved over the past two years. I am providing tertiary level services in all aspects of paediatric otolaryngology for the population of East London in a multidisciplinary setting. I am also appointed as Honorary Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, and am teaching Paediatric ENT module of MSc (ENT) course.
Since commencing my career in otolaryngology, I have gained extensive and broad experience in all aspects of the speciality. I have updated my personal practices and knowledge by reflective practice and self-directed learning, as well as attending conferences, courses and meetings.
I have completed research projects on laryngotracheal reconstruction, surgical management of lymphatic malformation, endoscopic posterior laryngeal grafts, airway management in Pierre Robin patients, cochlear implantation in syndromic children, branchial anomalies in children, surgical results of first arch anomalies, surgical site infections, and propranolol for subglottic haemangioma. I have presented these projects nationally and internationally and have published these in international journals. Overall I have published 60 articles on ENT related topics.
As Consultant at Barts Children Hospital, I have independently performed and supervised higher surgical trainees in all aspects of Paediatric otolaryngology including airway endoscopies, endoscopic airway procedures, major neck procedures, pinnaplasty, major ear operations, choanal atresias and excision of haemangiomas.
My training has been carefully structured to give maximum experience in dealing with patients, both medically and surgically. Doing dedicated research for 2 years has improved my critical appraisal skills. Maintaining a portfolio and logbook has helped reflect on my training needs and assess ways forward from time to time. My training has further reinforced my time management skills.
