Biography
John completed his undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology, Family Therapy, and Neuropsychology in South Africa and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Essex University. He also completed the British Psychological Society’s accredited Expert Evidence training.
He is accredited with the Health and Care Professions Council and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is registered with the British Psychological Society’s Divisions of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology and Special Interest Group in Coaching Psychology.
John has vast experience in the NHS, private practice, and medico-legal neuropsychological assessments. He is an honorary tutor for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate programme at University College London.
He was initially employed in the NHS as a Programme Director and Clinical Psychologist in Children’s Services. Thereafter, he was a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist in Older Adult Services, specialising in functional, cognitive impairment, and dementia assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. He is currently a Principal Clinical Psychologist and Locality Lead, working with complex, enduring mental health problems in adults over the age of eighteen.
John has trained in behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapies, CBT, humanistic therapies, narrative therapy, and systemic family therapy. His approach is integrative and systemic. After conceptualising a systemic formulation that describes and explains clients’ difficulties, he is able to integrate different psychological approaches to meet their specific needs and bring about the desired change.
John has worked with a range of presentations, from clients with complex, enduring mental health problems, to those experiencing intense transient crises, to those who simply want more out of life. He works with Mood disorders; Memory and cognitive difficulties; Bipolar Affective Disorder; Anxiety Disorders; PTSD; Intrusive thoughts; Delusional thoughts; Psychosis; and Personality Disorders. He also works with family and relationship problems; Bereavement; Stress management; and Personal development.
